Reno Contracting and Palm Springs Unified School District “Flipped the Switch” at Bubbling Wells Elementary School on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The celebration honored the recently completed solar photovoltaic projects at Desert Hot Springs High School, Two Bunch Palms Elementary and Bubbling Wells Elementary.
The solar projects were built with a $3 million dollar grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District to help mitigate Coachella Valley’s emissions. Over the next 20 years, the schools’ expected savings in energy costs is over $4 million dollars.
Faculty and staff from the Desert Hot Springs High School Renewable Energy Academy of Learning (REAL) attended the ceremony to teach the younger students about renewable energy, wind and solar systems. The solar panels provide real hands-on experience and will help educate students on the future of sustainable energy.
