San Diego State University Project Leverages Reno’s Expertise in Energy Efficiency and TI in the Hospitality Sector
Reno Contracting has recently partnered with Starbucks Coffee and Valerio Architects for the build-out of the new Starbucks Coffee at San Diego State University (SDSU). The tenant improvement project in the Aztec Student Union at SDSU is currently under construction with a target completion date of November 2013.
Aztec Student Union is located in the academic heart of the SDSU campus on its busiest pedestrian thoroughfare and is adjacent to the University’s primary public transit hub and the trolley station. An iconic addition to campus, the Aztec Student Union will be one of the first LEED Platinum buildings in the country. This new landmark will also be the University’s first LEED Platinum building. “This project is an integral part of the development of the new Aztec Student Union,” said Joseph McCaleb, Director of Preconstruction for Reno Contracting. “We are excited to be working with Starbucks Coffee to install one of their largest facilities in any university in the country. This state of the art coffee house will include in-floor radiant heating, operable windows and many other features to insure that it is highly energy efficient, in addition to being a great place for students and faculty to gather.”
In keeping with the University’s “mission revival” design aesthetic, the building will feature expansive arches, arcades, balconies and courtyards designed to take advantage of San Diego’s year-round climate. The Starbucks design team has taken this aesthetic and transformed it into a comfortable, spacious location with plentiful meeting, reading and study areas. The space offers approximately 3,420 square feet of interior demised space and an expansive outdoor seating area that overlooks the central campus.
